It makes me sad to see all of this anger towards Hetalia and its fandom. I know it's a popular anime/manga, I know it's the "hip" and "cool" thing to hate what's popular... but really the arguments that people have for hating it are just so weak.

Why not just come out and say that you hate it because it's popular? Hating it because it's "Not real history" is like saying you hate Prince of Tennis because it's "Not real tennis".

Yes, we know that Hetalia is a weak excuse for a history lesson. Just as we know that Tezuka really wasn't the reason for the extinction of the dinosaurs!

But you know what? It gets those interested in history that never would have been interested in it before. And doesn't that count for anything?

Why can't people who enjoy history like Hetalia? And why can't people who like Hetalia enjoy history? I for one think it's done an amazing job of getting me interested in what's going on around the world. I'm reading more of my father's books on the various wars, I'm looking up information on other countries, wanting to know everything I can about what makes them up as a nation.

And it's given me something to talk about with my father, which is something I'm extremely grateful for.

You are welcome to think Hetalia is boring, especially if you think history is boring. But don't bash the people who enjoy it, saying we are just "mindless omgnazisrhottt~!!!1! fangirls", because that's not what we are. Sure there may be a few fans out there like that, but calling everyone who enjoys the series something like that is a bit unfair.

Is this me being butthurt? Maybe. I personally don't think so. I just think it's me being confused over a largely generalized opinion.

What makes us so different than people who get into football because of "Eyeshield 21"? Or people who get into tennis because of "Prince of Tennis"? Or even those people who get into the whole prep school lifestyle because of "Bully"?

We know that Hetalia is not historically accurate. But by personifying something that was not personified before, it gives us something to identify to. It helps us understand other nations. It makes us want to be more unified as a world, as opposed to being stuck in a shell of our own nation.

I would honestly like to know why you like or hate Hetalia. Don't tell me "it just sux" -- tell me why you think it sucks.
